A Boston-based software engineer.
I’ve been working as an independent consultant for the past couple of years for market leading corporations in various fields including biotechnology, storage consulting, document tracking and control and intellectual property security among others.
Past employment has involved areas such as SAN filesystems, Windows CE/NT embedded development tools and various *nix (Linux, Irix, Solaris) kernel and application development.
Although I generally specialize in Linux-based solutions I have also done extensive work on Windows applications, cross-platform Perl and general web development.
Currently, my preferred development languages and technologies include C/C++, PHP/CSS, Javascript, AJAX and Perl.
Personal Projects
Family Locker
Implemented an online genealogy portal originally based on Simon Ward’s open source Family Tree Perl scripts which used a back-end flat file as data resource. Completely reimplemented the product in PHP, CSS and Javascript with a mySQL data store. The new implementation provides a more dynamic experience and efficient additions and modifications to family member information for logged in users.
Binlock Security Software
Designed and implemented a Linux kernel-level file locking system to protect user specified disks and files from reads, writes and/or updates. This provided a last-line security defense in case of unauthorized root access breach. Components included user-space configuration tools, configuration files and a fully integrated Linux kernel module.
Hexapod II
Six legged autonomous walking robot built with a custom HC11 micro-controller, 12 independent servos, two servo controller boards and an infrared sensor. Software consisted of bootstrap code written in assembly for the micro-controller and a controller program written in C which was executed on an attached PC. Control requests were sent to the robot via 115Kbs serial line.
KSlips Time and Billing
Homegrown open source KDE application released under the GPL to provide Time and Billing functionality in Linux.

Received certification in the Irix Kernel Internals from SGI.
